For fun!: Many kids begin walking by spending a lot of time on their toes, which can be normal, or might be a sign of more serious diseases if accompanied by other muscle weakness. In adults, a very tight achilles tendon can sometimes make it look like someone is walking on their toes because their heel spends so little time on the ground during gait.

Toe walking: Most of the time it is due to tight calf muscles which pull the foot down. It can be caused by disease such as cerebral palsy that causes hyper reflexes or spastic muscle contraction. Occasionally it can be due to habit.
