A member asked:

If your period starts, does that mean you don't have an ectopic pregnancy?

No: Vaginal bleeding is one of the common presenting complaints in patients with an ectopic pregnancy. Although this type of bleeding does not represent menstruation (a period) it is often not easy to distinguish from a period, particularly for women with irregular menses. For this reason, any bleeding that occurs early in pregnancy should be evaluated by a physician.
