What happens to your lungs when they fill with water?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Marianna Post answered

You drown: Than you drown. Can't breath in water. Fish can, humans can't so far.Human lungs can't extract oxygen from water, so there is no oxygen exchange.
