Yawning hurts: Best to have an exam of your throat to be sure there are no sores or masses. But, if it only hurts when you yawn, this sounds like muscle spasm due to some irritant. I would suspect you are experiencing reflux of acid up into your throat when you're sleeping. Go see an ENT for a complete exam.
