Hypercapnea: There are multiple reasons why a person may have high co2 in a venous sample. The must common cause would be dehydration. But, once he is well hydrated, if the bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) remains high, the patient needs a work up for it since there are other metabolic diseases associated with an abnormal bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) that need to be address.
