It it is fibromyalgia or chronic widespread pain, which are not clearly understood, so treatment is directed at relieving symptoms, mood, pain and function rather than attacking the causes; but studies have shown that succesful treatment of pain generators such as an arthritic joint or muscle trigger points, can diminish the pain.

Yes: There are several alternative therapies for pain management ranging from acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, relaxation therapy, meditation, exercise, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Best place to start would be a consult with a pain management center.
