Infection in throat: An inflammation in your throat could be causing difficulty swallowing , induced by an infection that could be viral or bacterial. A simple swab test could determine that, ruling out streptococci mutans infection.

Likely infection: If you have an infection like strep in your throat, then it would be painful for you to swallow. If there is an infection elsewhere that is causing swelling, then that would also make it difficult to swallow. Either way, you should resist trying to "wait it out, " and you should see a physician. Difficulty swallowing is not normal, and not addressing the problem may not improve the situation.

Dysphagia: Difficulty in swallowing is caused by, lesions in the mouth and pharynx or larynx, neuromuscular disturbances, mechanical obstruction of the oesaphagus, tonsilar abscesses, Ludvig's angina, and carcinoma of the tongue, excessive dryness or thirst,and acute alcoholic inebriation. It is a problem and if it does not disappear in a few hours you should seek professional attention quickly.
