Is it safe for a 4 year old to take a shot that has thimerosal?

What vaccine? : Thimersol is a preservative and has been removed from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine. A preservative-free version of the inactivated influenza vaccine is available.

Yes: There are few vaccines with thimerosal in them these days. It is present in some forms of the flu vaccine. The content of thimerosal in those vaccines is very small and not high enough to be associated with compromise in neurological development in children.

Yes: The amount of mercury in thimerosal used as preservative is very small and is rapidly removed from the system, any deleterious effect seems very doubtful.
