Darkening skin: Gangrene occurs because there is not enough circulation to a body part. That area becomes dark, eventually turning black. The skin shrivels and wrinkles and becomes tough like leather. In some cases there may be a smell associated with it as well. This is a very serious problem and should be seen by a doctor immediately.
