Correct your cycle: I would recommend that you discuss your cycles & gyn history with your gyn so you can investigate what the underlying cause for your irregular cycles is and correct it. Once you identify what the issue is and you want to conceive, you can time your sex with ovulation. After that, if you think you are pregnant/miss your period, then within 7-10 days of a missed period you can do a preg test.

None: If you have irregular periods there is no good time to check. Just get it done and get on birth control pills to regulate your flow.
