Typical PMS: The period is under the "command" of the part of the brain called the limbic system and it controls the hormonal changes. The migraine associated is because the autonomic (automatic) nervous system is unbalanced. Commonest cause? Poor diet, particularly all the sweet stuff. Coffee can also get into the act.

Related to menstruat: Migraine headaches related to menstruation are triggered by the fall off of estrogen which triggers menstruation. They can be treated like other migraines. Prevention can consist of taking prophylactic medications such as triptans, starting 2 days before expected menstruation begins and contine for two days after n=menstruation begins.
