Difficult to treat!: Pityriasis rosea is a self- limited rash that can be quite extensive, and may last for a few weeks. It is not contagious, and will eventually clear on it's own without any treatment. That being said, if itching is present, an oral antihistamine in combination with a topical Hydrocortisone (1 or 2.5%) may be beneficial. Uv light therapy has also been shown to speed clearing of the lesions.
