Several treatments.: You can try over the counter wart removers, but be careful: i've seen them do more harm than good. Other options your doctor might offer include cryotherapy (freezing the wart), electrocautery (burning the wart), laser treatment, or several different topical chemical treatments. If the treatment is typically uncomfortable, your doctor can numb the area before proceeding.

Thermal and chemical: I generally recommend starting by using a method that will not cause scar tissue. Tissues that have been burned, lasered or cauterized can be more of a problem to treat if the wart was not completely killed initially. Some patients can have a residual painful scar from too aggressive use of tissue destruction. Chemicals may take longer but cause less, if any, permanent tissue damage.
