What is spinecath idet therapy exactly?

Burning the disc: Idet is a procedure in which a catheter is placed into the disc and heated up. It is meant to essentially "burn" the disc material around the periphery of the disc and hope to help relieve pain. It has been available for about 12 years but has lost favor as some studies showed it was not really better than other treatments.

IDET: Idet is a procedure in which a wire with a heating element is inserted into a painful disc. The end of the wire heats the disc tissue presumably strengthening the painful disc and/or killing small nerves that may be causing the disc to be painful. It has been around for several years now and overall the results have not been great with idet.
