As directed: You can purchase any home pregnancy test at your local pharmacy w/o prescription. They all work equally well so don't worry about any particular brand. Focus more on ease of use so that you can be sure to follow the directions exactly in order to get the correct result. Don't take the test too early - wait until you've missed your first period, 4 weeks after your last menstrual cycle.

Urine test: Urine tests over the counter from a pharmacy or grocery store or at a planned parenthood would be the simplest and cheapest. These tests are very accurate from very early in the pregnancy. They are the same tests that you would have at your doctor's office. Blood tests are not generally needed.
