Drugs: It depends on the specific type, but generally speaking the answer is drug therapy. Most patients should be on Carvedilol or metoprolol succinate, an ace-inhibitor (ends in -pril) or arb (ends in -artan), and, ideally, an aldosterone blocker like spironolactone. Black patients also benefit from a combination of 2 meds called Hydralazine and isosorbide. Diuretics are used in most patients as well.
