How painful is lingual frenulum cutting?

5 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

It is not painful: Usually a topical and a local anesthetic is used that provides profound numbness to the area. Particularly if diode soft tissue laser is used, there is no bleeding and the area is rendered sterilized for excellent healing afterward. Find a dentist who is skilled and experienced in the use of soft tissue lasers.

Not bad: Especially if it is done with a laser.

Numb: You should be numb during this procedure and feel no pain at all. Once the anesthetic wears off, plan on being sore anywhere from a few days to 1-2 weeks. Eveyone heals differently depending on your health and how the procedure is done.
