Neck murmur: A neck murmur is a noice heard with a stethoscope in the neck area due to blood flow in a narrowed vessel. It is most often due to a plaque on the vessel wall due to atherosclerosis. Rarely, a neck murmur can be due to issue with the heart and the sound is only transmitted into the neck region.

Depends: The murmur label is just indication that there is an extra sound, usually of blood flow. In kids it is often blood flowing back to the heart from the brain, in adults it may be transmitted up from the heart or produced by a narrowing of the blood vessel (artery). Treatment, if any, would depend on the situation. A further study to discover the origin of the murmur would be next if her doc approves
