A member asked:

Is jealousy hereditary?

Depends: Difficult to answer this in this limited forum...Sounds like there may be more to your question than the question indicates...Jealousy may be a symptom of some self-esteem issues. Some personality characteristics are acquired genetically and some are acquired through learning...Some are both. My best advice for you is to seek an appointment with a psychiatrist for further discussion of this issue.

Somewhat, mostly no: Some studies suggest that genetics may play a part in jealousy, but those same studies show that it's what happens to us, the way we're raised, the influential people in our lives, and environmental events that are most important in cultivating a jealous disposition. There are ways to reduce jealousy on one's own, and if it can't be done without assistance, therapy can help.
