All parts: Any portion of the brain and spinal cord may be involved, usually the entire brain is involved (pan-encephalitis). Often the white matter tracts are initially affected leading to severe stiffness. Any part of the brain may get destroyed by the inflammation which results from the initial virus infection.

Several: Japanese b encephalitis, worldwide, is the most frequent form of arthropod encephalitis, outside the usa.
