DNA more specific: Blood typing is rarely used in paternity work now that dna studies are available. Dad's dna will have markers that are specific to him that show up in babies dna test regardless of babies blood type.

There are a few...: ..."impossible" combinations - a type ab father cannot have a type o child, and vice versa - but in general, a child need not have the same blood type as the father.
