Nothing : Breast-fed babies poop loose stools quite often yet sometimes strain (or seem to) by unknown reason.

If it gets hard: Breast fed babies can have a little poo each feed or a big blowout every 7-10 days.Fussing babies do so with their breathing muscle & pooch out the stomach in the process, this doesn't meen they have a tummy ache. Formula fed are usually more predictable @ 1-2/d but skippping a day is ok if it's still soft when they go.

See below: All babies bear down to have a bowel movement, just like we do. I would not recommend any intervention.

Roll Tide!: The smooth muscle of the gut doesn't work smoothly yet, so he's using voluntary abdominal muscles to push. The "colic carry" or "football hold" helps. He's face down on your forearm, head at your elbow, with part of your palm gently pressing on his stomach as you encircle his left leg with thumb & fingers. Gas rises, so butt up & roll against your chest for " toot." head up for burp. Even if fsu.
