Blindness: The most devastating intra occular disease is caused by CMV (cytomegalovirus). When the immune system significantly fails, to the point where the patient has less than 100 cells mm3, a retinitis may develop leading to permanent blindness. It is classified as re-emergent disease from a dormant viral infection.
