Hard to say: This is a good question but difficult to answer with any certainty. You see, bone infections can come in different ways. Sometimes a skin infection or ulcer gets deep enough that it gets into the bone. If that is the case, maybe it could have been treated and stopped before reaching the bone. Sometimes infection travels through the blood and settles into bone as well.
