Discography: Discography involves injection of contrast under fluoroscopy into the central portion of an intervertebral disc thought to be causing a patient's low back pain. The test is positive if there is extravasation of the contrast through the annulus with reproduction of the patient's usual back pain. It is not a recommended procedure for diagnosing low back pain, and there are several complications.

The purpose of the : Test is to find the source of your pain by recreating it over the same location with the same quality as the disc is injected. If it is a normal disc you will feel pressure. If a disc that is somewhat abnormal , maybe an ache but a disc or discs that are the source of your pain should be an exact reproduction temporarily. This is done under local anesthesia with occ. Use of some sedation
