Any number of things: "cracking joints" may occur in children or adults. If the sound is associated with pain, locking of the finger or hand in an odd position, or loss of function, then a doctor visit is indicated.

Can't say: There are several potential reasons. Without examining the wrist to see the cracking it is very difficult to determine the cause.
