Why do women have vaginal reconstructive surgery and what are the dangers?

Many reasons: There are many reasons for reconstruction which include birth trauma, congenital defects, following cancer or tumor surgery, assault, chronic strain, and many more reasons. However generalized pelvic laxity with prolapse or stress urinary incontinence from cytocoeke or rectocoele are quite common in addition to desire for elective rejuvenation.

Vaginal reconstruct: Vaginal reconstruction is usually preformed to rebuild areas that have been affected by cancer. There are many ways to rebuild a vagina - usually done with borrowing tissue from the surrounding areas. Flaps are common- usually a drop down rectus muscle flap, gracilis or anterolateral thigh flap can be utilized. Risks include flap failure (rare), bleeding, infection, and donor site problems.

Vaginal reconstr?: Vaginal reconstructions are either for congenital absence or hypoplasia, vaginal wall weakness resulting in prolapses or post cancer ablation & not easy. The dangers associated with these surgeries are limited and specific to what is being done and why. See a reconstructive surgeon with experience in this area to have a better idea of what is required and what can be done with minimal side effects.
