My daughter needs contact lenses. is it common for kids to use them? how long can you keep them in?

Not common: Contact lenses are often not recommended for children less than 12 years of age--usually for the reason of being able to insert them. As far as how long they can be kept in, that would depend upon the type of lens that is being used.
