How do chlamydial infections lead to ectopic pregnacies and blindness?

Chlamydia: Chlamydia infections that are not diagnosed early, but spread to the uterus and fallopian tubes can cause pid (pelvic inflammatory disease). Pid may damage the tube, which then may result in an ectopic pregnancy. For women, chlamydia infections do not have obvious symptoms and pid can be very difficult to diagnose. Chlamydia can be transmitted to an infant during childbirth if the mother has it.
