It depends.: If you required sutures, and they were placed properly, you need to have them removed about ten to 14 days after they were placed. You want to avoid direct sun exposure to the scar for the next year. Starting about two weeks after your stitches have been removed, massaging a few minutes every day in the shower with shampoo or conditioner can help the scar settle down which may take a full year.
