Probably a ganglion: Common place for a ganglionic cyst. Some will respond to tape compression for several weeks. Others require surgical removal if painful.

Soft tissue mass: A "lump" can either be soft tissue or often bone. You should have an xray and/or MRI to determine what the lump is. Your foot/ankle specialist is the best one to determine that.

Could be : Any one of a number things. But, it must be looked at by a doctor. It can be a benign lesion (non cancerous) like a ganglion, or possibly a malignant lesion. Most often, i will take a small 2mm-4mm punch biopsy for pathologic diagnosis. If there is fluid in the lump, this can be aspirated (remove fluid thru needle) and sent for analysis. Most benign lesions have a malignant twin so caution.

More info needed!: A lump could be any number of things--it depends on the type of "lump". Is it hard? Soft? Painful? How long has it been there? The most common lumps i see on the feet and ankles are ganglion cysts (a benign pocket of fluid that comes off a joint or tendon), or lipomas (a pocket of fatty tissue that enlarges--again, usually benign). But without more info, i can't give you a definite answer!
