Tough question: Professional ethics is constantly preached, but not always practiced. In my practice, for example, if i get a referral from another dentist for tmj/tmd treatment, it would be ethically wrong on my part to recommend that this patient remain in my office and go the other dentist in the office. A no no. Also, it is ethically wrong on my part to tell a patient to quit taking their meds.

Part 2: There are many "ethical" and "moral" decisions that must be made in a professional office. A male dentist should never work on a female patient unless the assistant is present, for example. You could go to some websites for each state where the ethics issues are often spelled out.

Medical ethics: This is a very broad subject. Here is the ama site on ethics http://www.Ama-assn.Org/ama/pub/physician-resources/medical-ethics/code-medical-ethics.Page the hippocratic oath is still a good guide : http://en.M.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/hippocratic_oath the types of ethical dilemmas we face can be extrapolated from the guidelines /some of my writing: http://brianlynchmd.Com/affectdying.Html.
