Evaluation: First you must be evaluated at a transplant center. You need to talk to your pulmonologist and be referred. Then you go thorough a medical evaluation to see if you indeed need a lung transplant (if it will help you) and if you are medically fit to survive the transplant and the recovery. Those are the first steps.

The patient can contact the transplant center directly or have the pulmonologist send a referral (usually this is better).
