A member asked:

What makes belly herniate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nature/Nurture: The belly button (umbilicus) is a natural weak point in the abdominal wall prone to hernia formation, even at birth. Factors that can contribute to hernia formation include heavy lifting, obesity, pregnancy, prior abdominal surgery, etc. Surgery is reserved for those that are causing pain or large enough for bowel to get "stuck".
