Not much: Most adults are already positive for herpes type 1 (usually associated with lip cold sores). The positive rate is over 50% here in the us.Remember also that most people never show symptoms. If you have never had an outbreak i would probably avoid kissing until the sore is healed in your partner. No need to take a chance if you might be negative.
