A member asked:

Exactly what effects would smoking have on the cardio-vascular system?

Everything bad: Smoking increases the rate of hypertension, causing blood vessels to constrict, and increases arteriosclerosis, which causes blood vessels to narrow and weakens them. Smoking is associated with increased rates of heart attack and stroke, kidney failure and peripheral vascular disease - decreased circulation in arms and legs. These effects are even worse in diabetics. Work on quitting, soon.

Atherosclerosis: Tobacco and nicotine injure arteries and over time are one of the major causes of atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. This leads to heart attacks and strokes to name the two most dangerous.
