Do not know.: Ganglion cysts are most likely due to use or overuse of the joint. It would be hard for most of use to restrict use of a major joint such as the wrist. These is no known method of prevention.

Unknown: To date, there is no known reliable method to prevent ganglion cyst formation. A ganglion cyst is a benign fluid filled sac, most commonly presenting as a compressible soft tissue mass on the back of the wrist. They may be associated with previous trauma (e.g. Wrist sprain) which may have created a small tear within the ligaments and capsule of the wrist. The cyst can wax and wane in size.
