Breastfeeding durati: Soreness of the nipples is frequent in the first week but goes away eventually. Make sure that the latch is good, meaning that your nipples should pass the baby's gum line and touching the roof of the mouth while nursing. I suggest no more than 20 minutes of sucking on each breast for a full feeding time. An hour on one breast is much too long and baby is treating your nipple as a pacifier!

Feeding vs nurturing: Your baby extracts 80% of what they will get in 5 and 95% in ten minutes on a side. Anything more is just baby hanging on for comfort/nurturing. If you can tolerate this fine, but I would suggest you change sides after 10-15 min and detach the kid. You can always keep him close for comfort in a sling.
