Because...: When you lay down, more blood is shunted to areas that receive less when you are standing. This is one reason for coughing at night, as blood reaches the upper lobes of the lung, much more so than standing or sitting during the day. If your blood pressure is low, this phenomena would be more likely. Talk to your primary care doctor! good luck.
