Bruises Leg Ulcers: When the injury is severe enough --and this may not be evident for days-- to the lower legs (and elsewhere), there may injury to the surface of the skin and then a hematoma forms under the superficial break in the skin. As the hematoma matures, it swells (think of jello in the refrig) and the pressure then breaks through the skin and begins to ooze currant colored material. Seek wound care!
