Needs the ER: If the person is unconscious, confused, or combative, emergency evaluation and treatment is needed. Even if you know the person is diabetic, you do not know what is causing the currently altered mental status without medical examination and testing. I agree with dr. Bey that the person will most likely need IV treatment according to what full exam shows. Er staffs are skilled at this.
