A 39-year-old member asked:
iodoform usage safe?

For What?: Iodoform has been used as an antiseptic for almost 200 years. Iodoform-impregnated gauze is often used to pack open wounds, especially after abscess drainage. While it is effective to stop bleeding, it actually impedes healing. Therefore, despite its medicinal smell, i prefer to avoid using it except to temporarily control bleeding from an abscess cavity.

Yes and no: Iodoform contains bismuth which impedes wound healing. Iodosorb and iodoflex are safe for wound healing.
