Get checked: This could be simple heartburn, but it could also be something more serious, such as an ulcer. You can try taking tums, rolaids, or an antacid such as tagamet (cimetidine) or prilosec. If they don't work, you should see your doctor. Even if they do work, if the problem comes back you should get checked. Solve the underlying problem so you don't have to take medicine all the time.

Acid reflux?: Symptoms of acid reflux includes, burning in upper abdomen, going to mid chest, jaws, sour taste in throat. Some people develope night time chocking spells, waking up with pain, indigestion. To make it more complex it also it might be causing chronic cough. The best advise to see a doctor for evaluation.

Maybe heartburn: Heartburn is very common and often lifestyle is a major contributing factor. Smoking/alcohol/caffeine/mint/fatty foods/too-spicey foods, and many medications cause heartburns. Obesity and laying down after meals etc...Are other risks. So, if you can control the above, you r much less likely to suffer heartburn. If above not adequate, otc prilosec/zantac/pepcid may help. Consult doc. Good luck.
