Possible: Mild cognitive impairment is sometimes difficult to differentiate from mild dementia of alzheimer's type. There are some tests that can help with diagnosis and monitoring of this. It is, generally, however mostly a clinical diagnosis i would suggest that you have here seen, evaluated, and followed by a geriatric psychiatrist. Your family doc and /or you neurologist can provide referral sources.

Alzheimers: Is a difficult diagnosis. But you have a neurologist. Would you mom also see a pyschologist or pyschiatrist. Depression can affect your mom also.
