The negative: It is common to have an initial "chemical pregnancy" where the sperm and egg meet and begin the implantation process only to quickly fail. The result is an initial elevation in beta human chorionic gonadotropin, or hcg, followed by a "failure" of the implantation process to complete resulting in the negative tests. If these were subsequent to the positive test it is likely you are not pregnant.
