Normal: Our goal for acl reconstruction is to return you to your pre-injury state. Our studies show 50-70% or patients get back to their previous level of activity.

Normal function: Goal of surgery is full functional recovery, including high level athletics. Elite level athletes may take 1 to 1 1/2 years to return to their elite level. Substantial therapy and restrengthening is needed to get this good result.

Back to normal: Isolated acl reconstruction for a torn acl should return your knee function back to normal once rehabilittion and graft maturatin have occurred at about 6 months after surgery. Concomitant cartialge and/or meniscal pathology may limit your overall recovery somewhat.
