Stimulaton test: Patients with type 1 VWD less vw factor than normal people. However, they store vwf normally in the cells that line their blood vessels. This can be released into the blood by certain drugs; one of these is ddavp (desmopressin). In a DDAVP (desmopressin) challenge the vwf level is measured, a dose of DDAVP (desmopressin) is given, and the level measured again to see if it goes up significantly. If so, DDAVP (desmopressin) can be used to control bleeding.
