A member asked:

To what degree does a hysterectomy and oophorectomy influence hirsutism?

None, usually.: Unless you have a rare ovarian tumor that makes male hormones, usually a hyst and oophorectomy don't influence hirsutism. Some women on estrogen only hormone replacement will increase their blood levels of shbg (sex-hormone binding globulin) enough to decrease the free levels of androgens in the blood, so they might notice some decrease over several months.

May improve: Removing the source of hirsutism may improve the clinical manifestations of it provided that the dysfunctional hormone source is from your ovaries. The adrenal glands can also cause hirsutism in some patients. Please discuss with your doctor.

PCOSOvarian : If it was due to pcos it may improve dramatically. Follow androgen levels. Adrenal disorders can also cause hirsutism which would not be affected.
