Back Pain & Cancer: It is unlikely at your age, especially giving the history you describe, that the back pain indicates cancer. It is most likely a result of the herniated disk and/ or effects of the spinal arthritis. Your physician can counsel you on exercises and other treatments to strengthen the back muscles and alleviate the pain, though.

Upper back pain: Pain while losing weight is usually associated with other factors surrounding the weight loss. Are you exercising in addition to changing your diet. Exercise can give you myofascial complaints especially when you have some discussion pathology. The diagnosis of cancer is not high on the differential considering you age, complaint, and recent imaging findings.
