Never: Cryosurgery is never used on invasive cervical cancer. It is sometimes used on cervical dysplasia. It would typically not be used more than one series of treatments.

Cryosurgery: Although cervical abnormalities may be safely treated with cryotherapy, leep is often recommended. After a leep procedure, the tissue that was removed can be sent to the laboratory for additional evaluation. Although a recurrent abnormal pap smear after cryosurgery may prompt a repeat cryosurgery, it is likely that a more definitive tissue procedure will be recommended.
